From Garden to Jar: The Journey of Every Herb Used at Christa's Creations
Every season begins the same way—with tiny seeds, a little patience, and a lot of hope.
Long before some of my soaps, skincare and seasonal products reach the shelves, you'll find me outside in my garden here in West Point, Prince Edward Island.
It's one of my favourite places to be. Walking through the garden with a cup of coffee, checking what's blooming and deciding what is ready to harvest has become part of the story behind Christa's Creations.
I grow a variety of herbs, flowers and vegetables for my family, and some of those homegrown botanicals eventually find their way into selected products. From planting and harvesting to drying and infusing, I love being able to follow an ingredient from garden to jar.
The Herbs Growing in My Garden
Throughout the growing season you'll find a variety of herbs, flowers, and vegetables growing around my greenhouse and raised beds.
🌼 Calendula
Calendula is one of my favourite flowers. Its vibrant orange and yellow petals are carefully harvested and dried before being slowly infused into oils for selected skincare products. The infusion develops a beautiful golden colour and is one of my favourite ways to bring something I've grown myself into a finished Christa's Creations product.
🤍 Chamomile
Chamomile isn't just for tea. I harvest and dry the delicate flowers to use in products that are inspired by relaxation and self-care. Even seeing these tiny blooms growing in the garden reminds me to slow down for a few minutes each day.
🌺 Marigolds
Marigolds brighten every corner of the garden while also attracting helpful pollinators. Their cheerful color makes harvesting one of the highlights of summer.
🌿 Sage, Rosemary, Thyme & Basil
These herbs work hard in my garden. Some are dried for simmer pots while others inspire seasonal soaps and skincare. Walking past them and brushing my hand across the leaves releases the most incredible natural aroma.
❤️ Ceyenne Peppers
Not every plant is destined for the kitchen. My Cheyenne peppers are dried and incorporated into specialty soaps, adding another unique ingredient grown right here at home.
🌱 Beets
I even grow beets! Along with feeding my family, I can dry some of the beets and turn them into beetroot powder, which I've experimented with as a naturally derived colourant in products such as lip care and soap. I love finding different ways to use what comes out of the garden.
Harvest Season
Harvest time is one of the busiest—and most rewarding—times of the year.
Bundles of lavender hang to dry in my home, baskets overflow with freshly picked calendula, and herbs are carefully dehydrated so they can be enjoyed long after summer ends. Watching shelves slowly fill with jars of homegrown ingredients is one of my favorite parts of running Christa's Creations.
Keeping Our Home Naturally Fresh
Natural living doesn't stop with skincare.
I also dehydrate lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, apples, and cranberries. Combined with cinnamon sticks, cloves, and pumpkin spice, they become beautiful simmer pots that naturally fill our home with the scents of the season.
There's something comforting about placing a simmer pot on the stove during a cool evening. The fresh citrus, warm spices, and dried fruit create an inviting atmosphere without relying on heavily scented products.
Why It Matters
Growing many of my own ingredients isn't the easiest way to make products—but it's the most meaningful.
Every flower I pick, every herb I dry, and every ingredient I prepare reminds me that handmade truly starts long before the finished product reaches your home.
When you purchase from Christa's Creations, you're getting more than handcrafted skincare or home products. You're getting a little piece of my garden, my evenings spent harvesting, and my passion for creating products with simple, thoughtfully chosen ingredients.
Thank you for supporting my small business and following along on this journey—from garden to jar.
