Not at all. The beef tallow I use is carefully rendered and purified, resulting in a very mild, neutral scent. In scented products, you’ll notice the aroma of the essential oils or fragrance used in the formula rather than the tallow itself.

Unscented products may retain a very subtle natural tallow aroma, but they are not intended to leave your skin smelling like beef.

Yes. Lye (sodium hydroxide) is required to make traditional cold-process soap. During soapmaking, the lye reacts with the oils and fats through a process called saponification, transforming them into soap.

My recipes are carefully formulated and the bars are given time to cure before being offered for sale. The finished product is soap — you aren't washing your skin with the lye used at the beginning of the soapmaking process.
