Can Homemade Dish Soap Really Replace Liquid Dish Detergent?

Sometimes the smallest hands remind us why we choose a different way of living.

When I look at this photo of my granddaughter, Hadley, I don't just see a happy little girl helping Grandma with the dishes.

I see one of the biggest reasons I started Christa's Creations.

Like most of us, I never gave much thought to the products sitting beside my kitchen sink. Dish detergent was just... dish detergent. If it cleaned my dishes, I figured it was doing its job.

But as I started learning more about the ingredients we use every single day, I realized something that completely changed my perspective.

Dish soap doesn't just wash our plates.

It sits on our hands while we scrub. It touches our skin dozens of times a day. Our children help with the dishes, wash their cups, rinse their toys, and are exposed to those same ingredients.

That realization stayed with me.

As I researched more about the products in my home, I found myself reading ingredient labels I had never looked at before. Some names I couldn't even pronounce. While every commercial brand has its own formula and many are designed to clean effectively, I wanted something simpler for my own family—something I understood because I made it myself.

I wanted to know exactly what was going down my drain, what was touching my hands, and what little hands like Hadley's would be using one day.

That desire led me to create my own handmade solid dish soap.

More Than Just Cleaning Dishes

Making homemade dish soap wasn't about proving that commercial products are "bad."

It was about creating something that aligned with the way I want to live.

I wanted a product made with thoughtfully selected ingredients, one that produced a rich lather, tackled everyday grease, lasted a long time, and helped reduce plastic waste from disposable bottles.

Most importantly...

I wanted peace of mind.

When Hadley reaches up beside me at the sink with her tiny scrub brush, I don't have to worry about what she's putting on her little hands.

Instead, I get to enjoy the moment.

Those moments are what matter.

The Surprise That Changed Everything

I'll admit it...

When I first made my dish soap, I wasn't completely convinced it would perform as well as the liquid detergent I'd been buying for years.

Natural products sometimes get a reputation for not working as well.

I couldn't have been more surprised.

The rich, creamy lather, the way it cut through everyday grease, and how long each bar lasted completely changed my expectations.

It wasn't a compromise.

It was an upgrade.

Watch It for Yourself

Rather than simply telling you how well it works, I wanted to show you.

I've created a short comparison video so you can see my handmade dish soap in action beside a traditional liquid dish detergent.

Why I Continue to Make It

Every product I make has a story.

Some are inspired by my own skin struggles.

Some come from my love of gardening and natural ingredients.

This one was inspired by family.

By wanting a home filled with products I feel good about using every day.

By knowing that when my granddaughter wants to help Grandma wash the dishes, I can smile instead of worry.

Because these little moments don't stay little forever.

And if I can make them just a little safer, a little simpler, and a little more natural...

That's exactly why I started Christa's Creations.

❤️ Hadley, you'll probably never remember helping Grandma at the sink... but I always will.

From Grandma to Granddaughter...

The photo below isn't staged to sell soap.

It's a reminder of why I started making it in the first place.

Because when the people you love most are using the products you've made with your own hands, you make them with even greater care.

And that's what Christa's Creations has always been about. ❤️

Hadley, my granddaughter and future creator at Christa's Creations, happily helps Grandma wash dishes using our handmade natural dish soap. She is one of the biggest reasons I choose thoughtfully selected ingredients for the products I make. This image represents my commitment to creating products I feel good about using around the people I love most.
