Beef Tallow in Skincare? Stay With Me… Your Skin Might Thank You!

If someone had told me a few years ago that I’d be putting beef tallow on my face, I probably would have laughed… and then slowly backed away.

But here we are.

Once I learned more about beef tallow skincare and started experimenting with it in my own recipes, it began to make a whole lot more sense.

So let’s clear something up right away…

No, you’re not going to smell like a cheeseburger.

That’s probably the number one question I get!

The grass-fed beef tallow I use is carefully rendered and purified before it ever makes its way into my skincare and soap. Depending on the product, I may leave it unscented or pair it with essential oils or other carefully selected scents.

So… What Is Beef Tallow?

Beef tallow is rendered and purified beef fat. It’s a traditional ingredient that can be used in everything from soap making to rich, waterless skincare.

At Christa’s Creations, I use grass-fed beef tallow as the base for many of my handmade soaps, face creams, body creams, balms and other skincare products.

Sometimes the old ways really were onto something.

Why Do I Like Tallow for Skincare?

Here’s the neat part.

Beef tallow contains fatty acids that make it a wonderfully rich and conditioning base for skincare. When I combine it with carefully selected oils, butters and botanicals, I can create simple waterless formulas that leave skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturized.

Think of it like giving your skin a big, comfortable hug.

I also love its versatility. I can whip it into a soft body cream, use it in a rich facial moisturizer, turn it into a balm, or use it to help create a firm, creamy bar of handmade soap.

Reading Ingredient Labels Shouldn’t Feel Like a Science Exam

Have you ever picked up a skincare product, read the label, and wondered if you accidentally grabbed a chemistry textbook?

I’ve been there.

One of the things I enjoy most about making my own products is being able to choose each ingredient for a reason.

Depending on the recipe, you might find ingredients such as grass-fed beef tallow, shea butter, jojoba oil, olive oil, beeswax, castor oil, essential oils and botanical infusions.

Some of those botanicals even begin in my own garden here in Prince Edward Island before I harvest, dry and slowly infuse them for selected recipes.

Simple ingredients. Handmade with care. That’s my kind of skincare.

Moisturized… Without Feeling Like a Greased Frying Pan

One of the biggest concerns people have about tallow skincare is that it must feel incredibly greasy.

It doesn’t have to.

The texture depends on the formula and the oils and butters I pair with the tallow. My goal is to create products that spread easily and leave skin feeling comfortably moisturized without needing a huge amount of product.

Your hands shouldn’t slide off your coffee mug, and your dog shouldn’t mistake your arm for a buttered biscuit.

That’s a win in my books.

Handmade in Small Batches in PEI

Every Christa’s Creations product is handcrafted by me in small batches in West Point, Prince Edward Island.

I develop the recipes, select the ingredients, make the products, cut the soap, label the jars and package the finished products myself.

Small-batch production also gives me room to experiment with seasonal ingredients and botanical infusions from my garden rather than trying to make everything exactly the same all year long.

Natural Skincare Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated

I’m not saying natural ingredients are magical.

I’m simply saying that sometimes less really is more.

Good ingredients.
Simple recipes.
Thoughtfully made.
